1. Open File Tabs
Easily select and close files by clicking/double-clicking on the associated file tabs. Many users open multiple files at once and group them together as projects so they all open together. The Open File Tabs make it easier to navigate between open files. Note that you can have not only multiple files open at the same time but also multiple formats such as .js, java, .cpp, .cgi, .c, .pl, .html, .txt and others.
2. HEX Mode button
Toggle between ASCII (normal text) and HEX editing modes. HEX editing mode can be used for editing compiled code, but the user must know exactly what values to edit.
3. Column Mode button
Toggle between Column Mode and regular text mode. Column mode allows users to select/edit text in columns or blocks. This facilitates powerful editing options such as writing to multiple lines with a single keystroke.
4. UltraCompare - Diff Tool
New in v12.00 A powerful new UltraCompare interface and top level access to UltraCompare, UltraEdit's native diff tool.
5. Find String dropdown
Users may quickly select and reuse recent Find strings from this toolbar dropdown. Find strings may also be entered directly and executed by pressing Return.
New in v12.00 Perl compatible regular expressions, Highlight All Items found, and UNICODE support.
6. Configurable Menus and Toolbars
Right click on the menus or toolbars and select the Configure option from the context menu to determine exactly what items should be included and position them exactly as desired.
New in v12.10 Backup and restore your toolbars, menus, and other personal customizations from the Advanced Menu.
New in v12.00 Single switch profiles. All menus and toolbars switch together when changing user profiles.
7. Find/Replace buttons
Use these buttons to quickly Find/Replace strings in the active file. These may be used to navigate backward/forward in code through matching strings.
New in v12.00 Perl compatible regular expressions, Highlight All Items found, and UNICODE support.
8. Enhanced File Tree View
Enhanced file tree view with tabs for displaying files for the active Project, a listing of currently open files, or an Explorer-like view of available drives/directories.

9. Code Folding
Code folding allows for the expand and collapse functions/structs. In collapsed mode, this powerful feature allows developers to quickly get an overview of the functions/structs in the active file and then expand only those items they wish to edit.
New in v12.00 Support for ignore strings and comment strings.
10. Active Line Highlighting
The line the cursor is currently on is indicated with active line highlighting. This can be a great aid in navigating through/parsing very long lines of code
11. Function List
The Function List displays all the functions in the active file/project. Double clicking on a function name in the list repositions the file to the desired function. Also, as you navigate through a file, the function selected in the list changes to indicate what function the cursor currently is located in. |

13. Output Window
Output from configured tools (such as compilers) or native tools (such as Find in Files) is displayed here and double-clicking on returned items seamlessly opens referenced files to the referenced string for editing.
14. HTML Toolbar
HTML toolbar. These buttons insert standard HTML formatting code into the active document greatly speeding up the web development process.

HTML toolbar. The buttons specified here insert standard HTML image elements into the active document and can be a great timesaver for creating image references in HTML documents.

17. HTML Toolbar (Special functions)
HTML toolbar, the buttons specified here perfom functions specifically designed for developers working with HTML code, including a text-to-HTML converter, an encoding/decoding tool for converting selected text to/from HEX values, and an HTML Protector to protect embedded code (such as JavaScript) from browsing by others.

18. Color Picker
Enhanced Color Selector which allows users to create/insert color values in Decimal, HEX, HTML, RGB color values. Users may also use the Nearest Color function to insert standard HTML color names such as Antique White or Blanched Almond into the active document.

19. Style Builder
CSS2 Style Builder which provides a graphical interface even novices may use to create CSS2 styles related to images, text, margins and padding.
20. HTML Tidy
User-friendly interface for configuring HTML Tidy options to be used in validating HTML documents.
New in v12.10 XMLLint support added. Parse and format your XML files with ease.
21. GUID Generator
GUID Generator interface which allows developers to effortlessly create globally unique identifiers. These are used by Windows to identify certain components, drivers, and dlls so they can be referenced on any user's system without conflicting with references from other applications.
22. Line/Clipboard indicator
This status bar cell displays the line and column where the cursor is currently located as well as the clipboard currently in use. UltraEdit not only supports the default Windows clipboard, but also 9 other custom clipboards.
New in v12.10 Clipboard history allows you to keep track of recent clipboard items.
23. File Format indicator
UltraEdit-32 supports editing files in standard ANSI formats (DOS, UNIX, and MAC) as well as UTF-8 and Unicode. This status bar cell indicates the format of the active file.
24. Bytes Selected/File Size indicator
The number of bytes in the active file or the number of bytes in the currently selected string are indicated in this status bar cell.
